Out for drinks and dinner with friends at Stack'd (in the Third Ward). The artist working on the wall art was still finishing some of it up. I liked the message!
I've been a bit behind in my posting - here's to some catching up! I bought this great top this weekend and thought the layers of different textures would be interesting.
For the last 2 weeks I have been meaning to get over to Pick n Save to buy some pumpkins - they had the coolest bunch of non-traditional pumpkins. So of course when I finally get over there this weekend - they are nearly out of all pumpkins, and there are none of the cool ones to be found anywhere. But it just so happens that I tracked one down that was on a display by the Halloween candy! Woo hoo - jackpot!
It was a great Saturday - started out with a brisk 8k doing Al's Run with Todd (and Mark to cheer us on!), then some yard work and a few errands, then dinner with Todd and Mark where I made the now infamous Apple Bistro Pizza (YUMMY), and they brought home made tomato soup and chocohotopots for dessert - between all the awesome food and the 3 bottles of wine - it was a fantastic night!
I've been addicted to this website (www.photojojo.com) for the last few weeks - and finally broke down and bought the book! It arrived today - woo hoo - just in time for the weekend!
Fall has come upon us quickly and I have had 4-5 fires in my fireplace this past week (I was trying not to turn on my heat yet, but when you get up to a house that is 55 degrees - you give in). I loved how the flames made a circle around the detail in the back of the fire grate.
One of my potted flowers had just a little left in it and had this tiny flower budding from around the sad dead of the rest of the pot! I just had to take a few shots seeing as outdoor pictures of flowers in Wisconsin will soon be over!
About 2 weeks ago I was driving past the Milwaukee Art Museum and all the fountains outside were shooting pink water. Tonight I thought I would head over there to see if I could get some pictures of it - but the fountains were all turned off (it was very windy - I'm hoping that is why). So I walked across the street to Discovery World to take some shots of the large metallic sculptures they have in front. Between the wind giving them some nice movement and the sun - I got some nice reflections. I did a little editing in Lightroom on this one.
I ran out to grab lunch today took a short detour to take a few pictures. I loved how the windows on this old warehouse were propped open and some were broken. I particularly liked this shot with the blue sky and clouds. I did some minor tweaks in Lightroom on this shot.
I threw my camera in the car when I ran to the grocery store, and almost didn't stop for a picture, but then decided to hop out and get a few shots of a creek that I drive by a lot. Most of the creek was dry so I jumped down into it for a better angel. The pictures turned out nice - nothing to write home about, just nice. So when I imported them into Lightroom, I was doing some minor adjustments. When I got to vibrance and saturation, I bumped them all the way up just for kicks - what it did was bring out the natural colors that were in the rocks and wood - at an extreme. I decided to go with it - so this is obviously not what the you would see in reality, but a fun experiment with adjustments. Amazing what software can do!
I actually set out looking for some fall colors in the trees, but there just is not many trees changing colors by me yet. When I was driving down the parkway, I drove past a picnic area with a random scattering of picnic tables and this lone red garbage can. Since the original picture had limited color to begin with, I thought this would be the perfect shot to make black and white and highlight the red barrel. I edited this shot in Photoshop.
Not an overly creative picture - but the perspective of the shot is somewhat interesting. It was looking really grainy to me and I realize that my ISO was pretty high for this. I don't recall if I did that on purpose to account for lower light - or if it was set that way from a previous shot... oh well!
Decided on photographing a new Celtic cross that we got at Irish Fest this year. I liked the depth of field on this picture, although the color is a bit on the yellow side. I did not do any post processing on this one.
Alright, last cheater day for the weekend, and hopefully for a while. This pic was taken towards the beginning of my project. It's at a train yard on Canal Street in Milwaukee. I liked the graffiti and the side - I did a bit of enhancing to the saturation of the colors on this one in Lightroom.
The only day this weekend I took my camera out and I got some pretty lame shots. The restaurant we were at has an interesting second floor area - it almost looks like its just floating from the right angle beneath it.
As I mentioned in my last post, my weekend did not allow for much picture taking. So this photo is from a few weeks ago when I was taking pictures down in the parkway in Wauwatosa. I liked the shadows and leaves that line the railings. I did some minor editing in Lightroom on this photo.
I had friends in from out of town this weekend and didn't do very well with getting my pictures in, so I have a few "cheater" days to post. This pic was from the Milwaukee Ale House along the river. I was zooming while I shot to get the neat effect of the light trails.
Looking for new and exciting things to photograph - settled on my cowgirl hat. LOVE this hat - bought it for my trip to St. Lucia a few years ago! Boy could I go for a Mango Crush right about now!
